Colonials Drop Doubleheader, Swept By Iona

ARLINGTON, VA- The George Washington baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Iona College on Saturday afternoon at Barcroft Park, falling 6-3 in game one and 3-2 in game two.
GW (2-9) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game one on freshman Owen Beightol's RBI single. Senior Brendon Kelliher would follow with a RBI double.
Iona scored a run in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 2-1 and then would explode for four runs in the top of the fourth after a three-run homerun by James Beck. The Gaels would add a final run in the top of the eighth for the 6-3 victory.
GW starter Joe Richardson struck out seven batters in the game while scattering seven hits.
In game two, GW took a 2-1 lead into the top of the seventh inning but were unable to hold on for the victory. GW starter Bobby Lucas pitched well, striking out seven batters on the afternoon but ultimately gave up the winning runs on a two-run single to Matthew Kriss.
The Colonials will look to snap their seven-game losing streak on Wednesday afternoon at Barcroft Park when they host Maryland Baltimore County at 2:30 pm.
