Colonials Snap Losing Streak, Top UMBC 6-2

ARLINGTON, VA- Senior Tommy Gately gave up just one run while striking out seven batters in eight innings of work as the George Washington baseball team snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 6-2 win over UMBC on Wednesday afternoon at Barcroft Park.
GW (3-9) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after Paul Pakan scored on a throwing error. Freshman Owen Beightol followed with a three-run double to give the Colonials a 4-0 lead after two innings.
Gately (2-1) would settle into a groove and allow just four hits the rest of the afternoon. He induced nine ground outs, seven fly outs and struck out the side in the sixth inning.
Senior Brendon Kelliher collected three hits on the afternoon including a double and a stolen base to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. Kelliher has now reached base safely in 12 straight games.
The Colonials will begin a stretch of eight games in nine days on Friday afternoon when they host Binghamton at Barcroft Park at 2:30pm.
