Colonials Complete Sweep of Duquesne With 6-1 Victory

ARLINGTON, VA - The George Washington University baseball team completed their three-game sweep with a 6-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Barcroft Park. The Colonials got seven innings from junior Eric Cantrell, who allowed just one earned run on two hits. Cantrell also recorded seven strikeouts to push his season total to 42.
Senior Tom Zebroski once again paced the offense with three more hits, including his fifth home run of the season. He also drove in two runs and scored two of his own from the leadoff spot. Junior Brendon Kelliher also continued his hot streak by reaching base three more times and scoring a run. Senior Chris Holland also recorded a hit and drove in a run on the day.
Freshman Brian Derner relieved Cantrell in the eighth innings and pitched the final two frames in impressive fashion, The freshman left-hander struck out five batters and allowed just one hit.
Andrew Heck got the start for Duquesne and threw six innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out three. Robert Corsi came in relief, pitching the final two innings and striking out five.
Unless the two teams meet in the A-10 tournament, this will be the final George Washington baseball game against Duquesne, who are dropping the baseball program after the 2010 season.
The Colonials will now start another busy week as they host the William and Mary Tribe on Tuesday afternoon at Barcroft Park before visiting Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday in Princess Anne, MD. George Washington will resume A-10 conference play when they begin a three-game series against St. Bonaventure starting Thursday, April 1st.
