Colonials Bounce Back, Beat Central Connecticut State 6-2

ARLINGTON, VA - The George Washington University baseball team returned to Barcroft Park on Friday afternoon and defeated the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils by the score of 6-2. Sophomore Eric Cantrell threw seven strong innings for his second win of the season and Brendon Kelliher went 3-3 with a walk to help lead the Colonials.
The Colonials for the second game in a row jumped on the board first when Chris Holland hit a first inning home run to give the team an early 1-0 lead. The lead was short lived though when the Blue Devils scored two fifth inning runs keyed by an error by Holland, to regain the lead at 2-1.
George Washington responded with their second home run of the game in the bottom of the frame when senior Andrew Haberern hit a towering home run to left field to tie the score at two apiece.
The Colonials got back to work in the bottom of the sixth when Kelliher led off with a single and stole second on the very next pitch. Senior Tim Reeves then hit an RBI double and designated hitter Curtis Eward followed with another RBI double to put the Colonials on top 4-2.
Junior Tom Zebroski then hit his fifth home run of the season in the seventh inning, which extended their lead to 6-2. Freshman Jay Lively came into close the game for the Colonials and pitched two shutout innings and allowed just one hit and struck out three.
The Colonials will return to the field tomorrow, when they take on the same Blue Devils in an early afternoon affair at Barcroft Park. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and senior Chris Neary is the probably starter for George Washington.
