WASHINGTON, DC - The Colonials men's tennis team swept Mary Washington College, 7-0, Thursday at GW's Mount Vernon Tennis Facility. Five of six singles matches were decided in straight sets with only the No. 2 match requiring a tiebreaker. With the victory, GW improved to 6-4 on the year.
Freshman Matt Treadgold (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central) playing at No. 2 singles, won the first set 6-2, before dropping the second set, 4-6. Treadgold then won the tiebreaker, 10-8. He suffered an injury during a serve, GW coach Tom Hawkins said, and could miss up to a week.
Sophomore Brett Warner (Vienna, VA/James Madison) was the most dominant Colonial on the day winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Freshman Chris Moulton (Portland, ME/Brickhouse) also won easily, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
Next up for the Colonials is a Saturday, Feb. 23 match at Princeton beginning at noon.
