Men's Tennis Captures ECAC Championship

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (Sept. 22) - The George Washington men's tennis team picked up the team championship, surviving a scare from New York University in the two-day ECAC Men's Tennis North Championship held at Vassar College's Joss Courts. > The team title came down to the doubles championship. UConn's Adam Sadowksi and Brian Ravesloot, advancing from the round of 32, got by NYU's Rishi Chhabria and Richard Salem, 7-6 (2) and 6-2. Had the Violets won the doubles title, they would have captured the team title as well. > GW finished with 28.5 points while NYU was second with 28 and UConn was third with 26. Host Vassar finished a school-best seventh place. > In the singles brackets, the Colonials won three while the Violets and Middlebury each earned a title. NYU's Demetrois Lenotis and GWU's Jacob Jopling battled from the round of 32 to capture the No. 2 and No. 3 singles titles, respectively.

GW INDIVIDUALS: Number One Flight: Sophomore, Matt Hane won the flight for all number one players with wins over Justin Ingoglia (Middlebury)(6-3,6-3), Chris Watson (Skidmore)(6-4,6-3), Mike Furman (Uconn)(4-6,6-3,6-3) and in the finals Mike Thompson (NYU)(6-3,7-5).
Number Two Flight: Kevin Wright (Senior) got to the semi finals beating Jeff Sluker (Ithaca)(6-12,6-0), Chris Jennings (Middlebury)(6-1,6-4) before losing to the eventual winner of the flight Demetrois Leontis (NYU)(2-6,3-6).
Number Three Flight: Freshman, Jake Jopling defeated all comers as he went on the win the flight for all number three players. Jake had victories over Ash Pajoohi (Hamilton)(6-0,6-0), Greg Fuji (Adephi)(6-1,6-0), Davis Rhodes (Vassar)(6-1,6-2), Ben Lamanna (Bates)(6-1,6-4) and Aron Gortman (NYU)(6-2,6-0).
Number Four Flight: Matt Treadgold, Freshman, won his flight with wins over Gary Falkowitz (Brandeis)(6-1,6-0), Duncan Cameron (Hamilton)(6-0,6-2), Joe Lang (Uconn)(6-3,6-1) and in the finals Stuart Brown (Middlebury)(6-3,6-3).
Number Five Flight: Chris Moulton, Freshman, lost in the finals of his flight losing to Alex Meditz (Middlebury)(2-6,6-1) after defeating Chris Ginoux (St Lawrence)(6-0,6-0), Ari Goldberg (NYU)(6-0,6-4), and Pat Blomberg (Stonehill)(6-1,6-1).
Number Six Flight (Doubles): Brett Warner (Sophomore) and Matt Eidelstein (Freshman) lost in the first round to the doubles flight winners Adam Sadowski and Brian Ravesloot (UConn)(3-6,6-3,7-10). The pair won their second match against Scott Gerbereux and Carey Sherman (Ithaca)(6-4,6-3).
