WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's basketball team returns to the Charles E. Smith Center on Wednesday night, hosting Richmond for the team's Black History Month Celebration. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m., with live coverage available on Monumental Sports Network and ESPN+.
THEODORSSON EYES MILESTONE
Senior Emma Theodorsson enters Wednesday's contest needing just four rebounds to hit the 500 career mark. Theodorsson joined GW after one season at Loyola Chicago. Prior to her time with the Ramblers, she spent her first two collegiate seasons at Bucknell. One of three four-year seniors on GW's roster, Theodorsson has tallied 1,069 career points to date and averages 9.5 ppg over her 113 career games played.
GW HONORS A LEGEND
At halftime of last Saturday's game vs. La Salle, GW honored the career of Taj Abraham by unveiling a No. 40 banner inside the Smith Center. Abraham becomes the first women's basketball player and joins legendary coach Joe McKeown as the only two members of the program to receive the honor thus far.
The only player in program history to eclipse 2,000 career points, Abraham was an All-America selection following the 1996-97 season and an honorable mention in 1995-96. One of the most decorated players in conference history, Abraham was selected as an All A-10 player all four years of her career, including two First Team selections, a Rookie of the Year honor in 1993-94 and the conference's Player of the Year in 1996-97. She was also tabbed the Atlantic 10 Championship Most Outstanding Player in 1996, leading GW to two tournament titles during her career.
Along with the team's tournament championships in 1994-95 and 1995-96, Abraham helped lead the Buff & Blue to four A-10 regular season titles and four trips to the NCAA Tournament, advancing to at least the second round in each season. Most notably, Abraham led the Buff & Blue to the Elite Eight in 1996-97, the deepest run GW basketball has ever made. She was also a catalyst on GW's team that advanced to the Sweet 16 in 1994-95, one of four trips GW has made to the third round of the big dance. GW's Elite Eight club dominated the conference en route to a 16-0 record in A-10 play, one of two perfect conference seasons in program history.
SCOUTING THE SPIDERS
Richmond enters Wednesday's contest with a 22-5 overall record and a 12-2 mark in the Atlantic 10 following an uncharacteristic 46-37 loss at George Mason on Monday night. The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak for the Spiders dating back to Dec. 30, and 37 points is the lowest scoring output for the program since the 2017-18 season.
Head Coach Aaron Roussell is in his seventh season with the Spiders, having led the program to consecutive NCAA Tournaments the past two years. Richmond won its first NCAA Tournament game last year, defeating Georgia Tech, 74-49, in the first round, before falling to the region's No. 1 overall seed, UCLA.
Richmond is led by reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Maggie Doogan, who is leading the conference in scoring at 21.9 ppg. Doogan is shooting the ball at a 51.6% clip and leads the team in rebounding at 8.1 per game. Rachel Ullstrom adds 15.5 ppg for the Spiders, netting 42.7% of her attempts from deep, while also chipping in 5.8 rebounds a night. Richmond's full 2025-26 season stats can be found here.
