WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's basketball team is set for an action-packed Saturday as the Revolutionaries welcome La Salle to the Charles E. Smith Center for the team's annual Pink Game. GW legend Taj Abraham will also be honored at halftime as her number 40 is raised to the rafters among the school's most elite student-athletes and coaches. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
CELEBRATING TAJ ABRAHAM'S LEGACY
During Saturday's halftime ceremony to honor the career of Abraham, a banner for her No. 40 jersey will be unveiled inside the Smith Center. Throughout the 2025-26 academic year, GW Athletics is honoring ten of the greatest to ever wear the Buff & Blue by honoring or retiring their jerseys in its athletics venue.
The only player in program history to eclipse 2,000 career points, Abraham was an All-America selection following the 1996-97 season and an honorable mention in 1995-96. One of the most decorated players in conference history, Abraham was selected as an All A-10 player all four years of her career, including two First Team selections, a Rookie of the Year honor in 1993-94 and the conference's Player of the Year in 1996-97. She was also tabbed the Atlantic 10 Championship Most Outstanding Player in 1996, leading GW to two tournament titles during her career.
Along with the team's tournament championships in 1994-95 and 1995-96, Abraham helped lead the Buff & Blue to four A-10 regular season titles and four trips to the NCAA Tournament, advancing to at least the second round in each season. Most notably, Abraham led the Buff & Blue to the Elite Eight in 1996-97, the deepest run GW basketball has ever made. She was also a catalyst on GW's team that advanced to the Sweet 16 in 1994-95, one of four trips GW has made to the third round of the big dance. GW's Elite Eight club dominated the conference en route to a 16-0 record in A-10 play, one of two perfect conference seasons in program history.
Drafted 31st overall in the 1997 WNBA Draft by the Sacramento Monarchs, Abraham played two seasons in the W, one with Sacramento (1997) and one with Detroit (1998). Abraham was inducted into the GW Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004, while her 1996-97 team was enshrined in 2019.
SMITH CENTER IN FULL BLOOM
As part of Saturday's Pink Game festivities, GW will debut new jerseys inside the Smith Center. Included in the pink and white design are cherry blossom flowers embroidered down the side of the jersey and matching shorts. The design ties in DC's long history with the cherry blossom tree, dating back to the early 1900s, and is the first time in program history the team will wear a cherry blossom flower on its uniform.
WILSON POSTS CAREER DAY ON HAWK HILL
Jaeda Wilson posted a career-high 20 points in GW's battle at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday. The sophomore guard finished 6-11 from the field, also tying her career-high for field goals made in a game, while knocking down seven of her eight attempts from the free throw line, both of which were new career bests. Wilson has scored in double figures four times this year, including her previous career-high of 13, tallied against Howard on Nov. 11. She's averaging 5.6 ppg and shooting the ball at a 42.3% clip from the floor.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
La Salle enters Saturday's matchup with a 13-11 overall record, including a 6-7 mark in Atlantic 10 action. The Explorers got the best of GW on Jan. 3 in Philly, topping the Buff & Blue 66-52. Led by eighth-year Head Coach Mountain MacGillivray, the Explorers look for a two-game sweep over GW for the first time in program history.
La Salle is one of only two teams (Richmond) with two players in the top 10 of the A-10 in scoring this season. Ashleigh Connor leads the way with 15.5 ppg, while Aryss Macktoon is just behind at 15.4 ppg. The duo combines for 47.5% of the team's total offense this season, while Macktoon also leads the program in rebounding at 7.0 per game. La Salle's full 2025-26 season stats can be found here.
