PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The George Washington women's basketball team came up short on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Saint Joseph's, 70-63, on Hawk Hill. GW moves to 13-13 overall and 5-8 in Atlantic 10 action.
GW jumped out to an early lead in the first, leading 16-11 after the first 10 minutes. Momentum stalled in the second for GW as four different players picked up two fouls before the midway point of the quarter. Gabby Reynolds didn't play a minute in the second, while Sara Lewis also picked up an early second foul, forcing GW to switch up its rotation early. The Hawks took advantage of the momentum shift, outscoring GW, 20-13, in the stanza to take a 31-29 lead into the halftime break.
Neither team found a strong footing in the third, with both squads trading baskets throughout. SJU led by two entering the fourth, with GW still within striking distance. Jaeda Wilson came alive down the stretch, keeping GW in the game with a career-high 20 points. Wilson finished 6-11 from the floor and 7-8 from the free throw line, while also grabbing three rebounds and dishing out two assists. Saint Joseph's timely shot-making down the stretch proved to be the difference maker, as the Hawks pulled away in the final three minutes to secure the win.
Along with Wilson's career day, Reynolds finished with 15 points, 13 of which came in the second half. Mia James added eight points, while Kamari Sims chipped in seven.
The Buff & Blue play next at home on Saturday, hosting La Salle for the program's annual Pink Game. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m., with live coverage available on Monumental Sports Network and ESPN+. At halftime of the contest, GW will honor program legend Taj Abraham with her #40 adorning the wall of the Smith Center.
