WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's basketball team looks to bounce back on Wednesday at home, hosting Rhode Island for a matinee tip-off at 11:00 a.m. The matchup marks GW's annual School Day, welcoming local K-12 students to the Charles E. Smith Center. Live coverage of the A-10 battle will also be available on ESPN+.
A-10 TOURNAMENT REMATCH
Wednesday's game marks the first time the two programs have faced off against each other since the second round of last season's Atlantic 10 Conference tournament. After receiving a first-round bye, Rhode Island faced GW for the second-consecutive time, having lost to the Revolutionaries the week prior to end the regular season. GW was coming off an opening round win over Loyola Chicago.
Ultimately, the Rams outlasted the Buff & Blue in a gritty defensive battle, ending GW's season with a 52-41 win. The Rams' season lasted one more game as they were eliminated by eventual conference runner-up, Saint Joseph's, in the quarterfinal round.
HISTORIC DOMINANCE
Wednesday's game marks the 57th meeting all-time, the fourth-most against a single opponent in GW program history. GW has been historically dominant against the Rams with a 45-11 lead in the all-time series. Those 45 wins mark the second-most in program history against one team (only behind 59 wins vs. Duquesne), while the .804 winning percentage vs. the Rams is the fifth-best in program history.
The Buff & Blue enjoyed a dominant stretch from the late 1980s into the late 2000s, only losing two games in a 22-year span. Included in that run were a 17-game winning streak and a 15-game winning streak, with the only losses coming back-to-back in 1995 and 1996.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
Rhode Island enters the week scorching hot, holding a 12-2 overall record and a 3-0 mark in conference action. Led by seventh-year Head Coach Tammi Reiss, URI leads the A-10 pack in a few statistical categories, including total defense (54.0 opponent ppg) and fewest team turnovers (11.9 per game).
The Rams win by committee, with three players averaging double figures entering the week. Palmire Mbu leads the way, averaging 13.1 ppg, while also pulling down 6.2 rebounds a night. Brooklyn Gray puts in 12.5 ppg and leads the team in assists at 3.1, while Vanessa Harris averages 12.0 points and 3.4 boards a night. Rhode Island's full 2025-26 stats can be found here.
