Women's Basketball Wins Heartstopper vs. Saint Louis, 64-62

WASHINGTON - In the first game of the second half of the Atlantic 10 schedule, George Washington women's basketball welcomed Saint Louis to The District, with both teams sporting 11-11 overall records and the Revolutionaries looking to gain ground on the Billikens in the A-10 standings.
40 heart-stopping minutes later, GW secured in the final seconds arguably the biggest win of the Ganiyat Adeduntan Era in Foggy Bottom.
GW started strong and held a 17-12 lead after one, before Saint Louis edged ahead 33-30 at intermission after shooting .667 from the floor in the second quarter.
Heading into the final stanza, the Billikens had extended their margin to four, 51-47, leaving room for a final GW push, though leading scorer Gabby Reynolds was saddled with four fouls. Kamari Sims came to the rescue, however, with GW's first five points of the fourth, first on a three-pointer to bring the GW Revs within one at 53-52, then with a 15-footer in the lane to put her team ahead with 6:18 to play. The lead was short-lived as an 8-0 Saint Louis run ensued, but GW answered right back.
In a game of anything-you-can-do-I-can-do-better, Reynolds sparked a 7-0 GW run with a pair of jumpers sandwiched around a mammoth Silvia Gonzalez three, seeing the game squared at 61 with 48 seconds left. After a Saint Louis freebie, the ball was in the Revolutionaries' hands when Sara Lewis went to work. Backing down her defender and notching an and-one, Lewis used a three-point play to return the Buff & Blue to the lead at 64-62.
GW dug in on defense to force a Saint Louis turnover on the second-to-last possession, and Lewis made the play of the game taking her fifth charge of the contest in the closing seconds, before surviving a buzzer-beating, would-be game-tying shot at the rim to earn its first win against Saint Louis since 2022.
The bigger, bruising Billikens got 44 of their points in the paint, compared to GW's 26, but the final two that would have tied the game weren't meant to be.
Reynolds led GW with 14 points, while Lewis was all over the floor, literally. With her game-changing charges taken, 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and a block, Lewis made her return heard loudly after missing Saturday's win against Fordham.
The winners of two straight to get to 4-6 in the conference and 12-11 overall, GW will look to keep stacking wins on Sunday. A nationally televised showdown at Dayton looms next at 2 p.m. from UD Arena live on USA.
