DAYTON, Ohio – Behind Gabby Reynolds' 12 second-half points, the George Washington women's basketball team captured a 66-54 victory over Dayton on Sunday afternoon, securing a season sweep over the Flyers. The win is GW's first inside UD Arena since 2016.
Neither team jumped out to a sizeable lead through the first three quarters, with Dayton's six-point advantage midway through the first quarter representing the largest edge. Kamari Sims was the spark GW needed early, scoring seven of the team's 11 points in the first 10 minutes, keeping GW within striking distance.
After a back-and-forth middle 20 minutes, GW found themselves trailing by five entering the fourth. That's when the Buff & Blue put their foot on the gas, erasing Dayton's lead and storming past the home team. The final six minutes of regulation were all GW, as the team used an extended 18-2 run to secure the victory. Reynolds scored six of GW's points over that stretch, while Jaeda Wilson, Sara Lewis and Sims combined for the remaining 12.
Reynolds led the way, with her family in the crowd, scoring a game-high 17 points and grabbing four rebounds. Sims and Wilson both added 12, while Emma Theodrsson chipped in 10 points and a team-high six boards.
GW will enjoy some well-earned rest as the team enters its mid-week bye. The Buff & Blue return to action on Saturday, traveling to Davidson for a 1:00 p.m. tip.
