WASHINGTON – After securing its first win of 2026, the George Washington women's basketball team returns to action Saturday, welcoming Loyola Chicago to the Charles E. Smith Center. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
SNAPPED THE SKID
Wednesday night's win over Duquesne snapped a four-game losing streak for GW, the longest of the season. GW had previously won seven-consecutive, reaching a 9-5 record at one point late in December. Sara Lewis led the way for the Buff & Blue, turning in an inspiring effort that saw her post 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Fellow junior Kamari Sims added 13 points, including consecutive three-pointers to open the second half, which set the tone for GW's high-octane offense after halftime. Senior Emma Theodorsson chipped in 11 in front of nearly 50 family and friends who were in attendance to see the Pittsburgh native return home.
MAKING THE FREEBIES
This season, the Revolutionaries have been exceptional at the free-throw line, shooting a combined 75.5% as a team, which ranks second in the conference and 47th overall across 359 Division I teams. Richmond is the only team in the A-10 higher than the Buff & Blue, with the Spiders shooting 78.3% from the charity stripe.
Individually, GW has five players shooting above 80% from the line, including Colleen Phiri (88.9%), Gabby Reynolds (84.2%), Kamari Sims (84.2%), Filipa Calisto (83.3%) and Sara Lewis (80.6%). The Revolutionaries also have three more players shooting 75% or above, including Jaeda Wilson, Silvia Gonzalez and Mia James.
SCOUTING THE RAMBLERS
Despite a 6-11 record and a 2-4 mark in the Atlantic 10, Loyola Chicago enters Saturday's matchup playing good basketball. The Ramblers got their trip to the DMV started earlier this week, facing reigning conference champion George Mason in Fairfax on Wednesday. The visiting Ramblers gave the champs a scare, narrowly falling, 59-54, in EagleBank Arena. Prior to the matchup, Loyola Chicago had won two conference games in a row, defeating Dayton and Saint Louis in close battles. LUC's four conference losses are to the top four teams in the standings thus far, including the aforementioned Patriots, Rhode Island, Davidson and Richmond.
Offensively, Loyola Chicago ranks last in the conference in scoring at 54.8 ppg. Their attack is headlined by three players, all averaging double figures this season. Alex-Anne Bessette leads the team with 11.6 ppg, while Alexa Kinas averages 10.6 points and 4.6 rebounds a night. Brooklyn Vaughn rounds out the Ramblers' double-digit scorers, averaging 10.1 points and a team-best 6.6 rebounds. LUC's full 2025-26 stats can be found here.
