Women’s Basketball Stopped Late Against Loyola Chicago, 53-48
1/17/2026 4:52:00 PM | Women's Basketball
After earning its first road win of the A-10 slate on Wednesday in Pittsburgh, George Washington women's basketball returned to The District for a rare Saturday matinee with the Loyola Ramblers in the city. Trailing by three with the ball and :18 ticks to play, the Revolutionaries turned it over and couldn't recover in the 53-48 setback.
GW started slow for a second-straight game and fell into a 15-6 hole after the first quarter, but unlike in the road win last game at Duquesne, this time the Revolutionaries didn't wait for halftime adjustments to respond.
A 10-0 run eliminated the Ramblers' 23-13 lead before the teams settled in at intermission, back deadlocked at 27 apiece. The first half was a tale of two quarters for the George Washington offense, as GW hung 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting (.583) in the second after enduring the opening six-point first quarter with a .300 mark from the floor.
The heater continued in the opening moments of the third as George Washington netted the half's first seven points en route to a 34-27 edge. Loyola fought back in the game of runs to enter the final stanza down three, 38-35.
The Ramblers controlled the action in the fourth when George Washington's turnover issues resurfaced, and seven miscues in the final 10 minutes limited the Revolutionaries' chances.
Despite fouling out, Sara Lewis led GW in scoring in a game when the long ball wasn't falling. Lewis' 15 points and nine rebounds were both team highs, but the turnovers and a 2-of-18 team effort from three-point range were a dangerous mix in defeat.
GW heads back on the road Wednesday for a short drive down 95 to Richmond to meet VCU at 6 p.m. The action at the Siegel Center can be seen live on ESPN+.
