KINSTON, N.C. – GW baseball alum Steve DiTomaso '24 has signed a professional contract with the Down East Bird Dawgs of the Frontier League, the club announced earlier this week. DiTomaso, a five-year standout for the Buff & Blue, will begin his professional career when the team opens the 2025 season in early May.
DiTomaso arrived in Foggy Bottom in the fall of 2019, making his debut with GW baseball during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. After playing in 11 games that year, he broke onto the scene in 2021, tallying 51 hits and starting in 40 games during his first full campaign. He was named to the Atlantic 10's All-Rookie Team and the All-Conference Second Team. Over the next five seasons, DiTomaso put together one of the most illustrious careers in program history, ranking amongst the best in numerous statistical categories.
Over his 215 career games played, DiTomaso set the program record with 905 at-bats. He finished second in career hits with 295, falling just short of Tom Zebroski's career mark of 299 set from 2006-10. He also ranks in the top 10 with runs scored (171 – seventh), triples (11 – fifth) and stolen bases (60 – ninth). He drew 75 career walks, which is 24th all-time in GW history, while also driving in 130 RBI, good enough for 18th on the career leaderboard.
Off the field, DiTomaso was also active in the community, working with the non-profit organization "Dream on 3," which aims to give opportunities through sport to kids and young adults aged 5-21 who live with life-altering conditions. He was also honored through the baseball program as the team's winner of the Warren Fulton III Memorial Award and the 2023 recipient of the Jackie Robinson Award.
DiTomaso is one of five GW baseball alums actively playing professional baseball. He's joined by Harrison Cohen (Yankees' system), Cade Fergus (Phillies' system), Trevor Kuncl (Reds' system) and Brett Young (Brockton Rox – Frontier League).
