Women’s Basketball Gets Back on Track vs. Morgan State

WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's basketball team took care of business on Sunday afternoon, dispatching Morgan State, 82-56, for the team's second win of the season. Standout sophomore Gabby Reynolds led the way, posting a game-high 18 points off the GW bench.
Reynolds made her presence felt early, knocking down two quick triples to even the score after the Bears captured an early 6-0 lead. It wasn't until late in the first quarter that GW started asserting its will, ending the period on an 11-4 run to take a seven-point lead.
The Revolutionaries extended their advantage to double figures with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half and never looked back, holding at least a 10-point lead the rest of the way.
GW's offense looked as balanced as it has all season, with 10 players getting in on the action, and four hitting double figures. Headlined by Reynolds' 18, Colleen Phiri also got back on track with 13 points, including three triples. Kamari Sims continued her solid start to the season with 12, while Tanah Becker posted 10 points and seven gritty rebounds, all of which came on the offensive end. Sara Lewis and Jaeda Wilson just missed out with nine points apiece, while Lewis added seven boards of her own. Caia Loving made the most of her minutes off the bench, putting in four points and nabbing a team-high eight boards.
One of the keys to GW's success on Sunday was the ability to take care of the basketball. The GW Revs coughed the ball up just 10 times, less than half of the 20.5 turnovers per game the team was averaging heading into the matchup. On the flip side, GW forced 19 Morgan State turnovers, converting them into 20 points on the other end.
GW looks to carry this momentum into the Cayman Islands Classic, which kicks off this Friday. The Buff & Blue will face Miami at 1:30 p.m., streamed exclusively on FloCollege.
