Buff & Blue Continue to Shine in Baseball Summer Leagues

WASHINGTON – As the summer rolls on and the fall semester approaches, GW baseball continues to shine with student-athletes representing the Buff & Blue in various summer leagues across the country.
"Our coaching staff is proud of the accomplishments our men have achieved throughout the first part of the summer," said head coach Gregg Ritchie. "Our men have represented GW Baseball in a top-shelf manner both on and off the field. They've done a wonderful job being purposeful in applying the summer opportunities into visible development of their plans to further reach their potential for the success of GW Baseball. They've also continued to establish an elite compete and winning mentality throughout the summer. Congratulations to each of our men for their performances and the many accolades they have received because of their commitment to excellence. All are excited to get back to Foggy Bottom after an achieving summer and further ready ourselves for a championship season."
Through the first week of July, seven Revolutionaries have been named to their respective league's All-Star games. Robbie Lavey (Valley League), Ayden Alexander (Valley League), Tim Nicholson (Cal Ripken League), Reese Crochet (Cal Ripken League) and Shugy Klein (East Coast Collegiate League) have each earned All-Star nods. Incoming first-year Drew Harris was also named an East Coast Collegiate League All-Star as he competes with the Trenton Capitals prior to arriving in Foggy Bottom. Ty Acker was selected to the Prospect Games as he competes for the North Fork Ospreys in the Hamptons League as well. Stats and notable information for 15 of GW's summer competitors are below.
Robbie Lavey – Charlottesville Tom Sox
Through 22 games this summer, Lavey holds a .312 batting average with 24 total hits. He has 18 RBI and belted five home runs. Lavey has scored 18 runs for the Tom Sox, drawn 13 walks and holds an on-base percentage of .411. His slugging percentage sits at .558 and his OPS is .969. Defensively, Lavey has a fielding percentage of .984 and has registered 114 putouts. He's recorded 10 assists and only made two errors in the field.
Ayden Alexander – Charlottesville Tom Sox
Alexander has appeared in eight games this season, all out of the pen for Charlottesville. He's tossed 11 total innings and allowed just four earned runs. Through his first six appearances, he had allowed just one hit in 10 total innings. Alexander boasts an ERA of 3.27 and holds a 2-0 record on the mound. He has seven strikeouts this summer and has only allowed two extra-base hits, both of which were doubles.
Tim Nicholson – Alexandria Aces
Nicholson has appeared in 20 games this summer for the Aces, recording 82 total at-bats. He holds a scorching batting average of .378 with 31 hits, six of which were for extra bases. Nicholson has 14 RBI and stolen nine bases as well, all while scoring a team-high 26 runs. His on-base percentage sits at .485 and he has a slugging percentage of .476 with an OPS of .961.
Reese Crochet – Alexandria Aces
Crochet has been lights out for the Aces this summer, appearing in 10 games and holding a 2-0 record on the mound. He's tossed 14.2 innings, allowing just nine hits and four earned runs for an ERA of 2.45. Crochet has 20 strikeouts this summer and holds opposing hitters to a .176 average, a .196 slugging percentage and a .345 on-base percentage.
Ty Acker – North Fork Ospreys
Through 17 games, Acker has been lighting it up at the plate with a .364 batting average and 20 total hits. He's driven in 10 RBI for the Ospreys and drawn eight walks for an on-base percentage of .431. Acker has also scored 10 runs and stolen two bags, all while only striking out four times. His slugging percentage is at .527 and his OPS sits at .958. Acker has also competed in two games at the Hamptons League Prospect Showcase, going 2-for-3 from the plate with two RBI and a walk.
Shugy Klein – Mercer Mammoths
Klein has appeared in four games for the Mammoths, boasting an ERA of 1.69 in 19 innings pitched. His record sits at 1-0 this summer and he's recorded 24 strikeouts as well. Klein is holding opposing hitters to a staggering .106 average at the plate, and he holds a WHIP of 1.19.
Drew Harris – Trenton Capitals
Harris, a native of Haddon Heights, NJ, has appeared in four games this summer for the Capitals and tossed a total of 11 innings. He has yet to give up an earned run this summer, holding opposing batters to a .243 average. Harris has eight strikeouts thus far and a WHIP of 1.27. His record sits at 2-0 as he prepares to begin his collegiate career with GW this fall.
Michael Foltz – Orleans Firebirds
In the prestigious Cape Code League, 2024 Atlantic 10 First Team All-Conference pitcher Michael Foltz has enjoyed a solid summer thus far. Foltz has tossed a total of 18 innings, holding a team-best 0.50 ERA and allowing just seven total hits which is lowest on the club. He's given up just three runs in his three starts and has nine strikeouts. Foltz's WHIP is currently 0.67 and he holds opposing batters to a .125 average.
Max Haug – Mystic Schooners
Haug has tossed 16 total innings across seven different appearances out of the pen for the Schooners, recording an ERA of 2.25. He has 22 strikeouts this summer, while only allowing 11 hits. Eight of his strikeouts came in his most recent outing on July 4, where he tossed 3.2 innings and struck out eight of the 11 batters he faced, earning his lone save of the summer. Opposing batters hold a .190 average against Haug and he lets up just a .222 on-base percentage to hitters he faces.
Andrew Cutler – New Britain Bees
Cutler is 1-0 this summer with three saves through his first 11 appearances with the Bees. He's tossed 13.2 total innings, striking out 16 batters and allowing 14 total hits. He holds a WHIP of 1.24 and his ERA is 3.95. Cutler is holding opposing batters to a .286 average and a .327 slugging percentage.
Cristino Tufano – Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs
Tufano has played in 26 games this summer with the DiamondDawgs, recording a .359 batting average and 37 total hits. Tufano has seven doubles this summer and has scored 21 runs, all while driving in 16 RBI. He's draw 14 walks, giving him an on-base percentage of .439, while also boasting a slugging percentage of .447. He's struck out just 12 times in 103 total at-bats.
Conlon Walker – Alpharetta Aviators
In 17 games this summer, Walker has amassed 49 at-bats and a batting average of .347. He has 17 total hits and has scored nine runs for the Aviators. Walker has drawn six walks for an on-base percentage of .418 and driven home nine RBI. His slugging percentage sits a .449 and his OPS is currently .867. Walker has belted one home run this summer as well, coming on June 28 against the Brookhaven Bucks.
Drew Oppenheim – Trenton Capitals
Oppenheim has appeared in eight games for the Capitals this summer, tossing 21.2 total innings. His ERA sits at 2.49 and he has a total of 16 strikeouts collected as well. On the mound, Oppenheim has collected a team-best four wins, while also holding opposition to a .247 average at the plate. His WHIP is currently .134.
Brayden Kurtz – Frederick Keys
Kurtz has tossed 10 innings for the Keys this summer, allowing four earned runs and holding an ERA of 3.60. His record currently sits at 0-1, but he's tallied 16 strikeouts compared to just nine hits allowed this summer. He's given up just four earned runs and allowed five walks as well.
Kobe Mentzer – Danbury Westerners
Mentzer, who joins GW after spending four years at Union College, has appeared in 10 games with 30 at-bats for the Westerners this summer. Mentzer is batting .367 from the plate with 11 total hits and seven RBI. He's stolen two bases and scored seven runs as well. His on-base percentage if .488 after drawing nine walks and his slugging percentage is currently .400.
