LAST TIME OUT
Last Saturday, GW celebrated Senior Day with a 50-43 victory over Loyola Chicago. The win moved GW's winning streak to three in a row and five of the last eight. Nya Robertson led GW in scoring, putting up a game-high 16 points and grabbing three rebounds to lead GW to victory. Robertson got the offense going in the first quarter, recording the team's first eight points of the game. Neither squad could find separation, but Loyola Chicago did manage to maintain a slim lead throughout the quarter, eventually leading 17-15 after one. However, GW's signature stout defense kicked in during the second, holding the Ramblers to just nine points in the stanza and securing a 27-26 lead at halftime.
Out of the break, GW's defense continued to make life hard on Loyola Chicago. GW only allowed eight points in the third quarter, outscoring the opposition 12-8 in the stanza. The fourth quarter was much of the same as the Revolutionaries held the Ramblers to just nine points, the Ramblers' third straight single-digit scoring quarter, to secure the 50-43 win. Loyola Chicago made things interesting midway through the fourth, cutting GW's lead down to three at the 6:57 mark, but GW would close on an 8-4 run to secure the win.
Along with Robertson, Brown also had a solid showing with 14 points and five rebounds, while Taiwo continued her streak of collecting at least 10 rebounds with 11 caroms to go along with six points. Taiwo has now tallied at least 10 rebounds in six straight games. Inniss also finished with six points while also adding eight boards and three rebounds as well.
ROBERTSON EARNS A-10 HONOR
Following a stellar sophomore season, Robertson was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Third Team on Tuesday afternoon. Robertson led the Buff & Blue in scoring and ranked fourth in the conference at 15.9 points per game this season. This marks the second straight year Robertson has garnered conference accolades after receiving the Sixth Women of the Year award and being named to the conference's All-Rookie Team after the 2022-23 season. Robertson appeared in 27 games for GW this season, making 22 total starts and playing 30.4 minutes per game which also paced the team.
Prior to the 2023-24 season, Robertson received recognition from the conference when she was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Second Team. Robertson proceeded to shoot a career-best 36.8% from the floor and 34.7% from the 3-point line, posing as a threat to opposing defenses every time she stepped on the court. Along with her scoring numbers, Robertson also grabbed a career-high 2.8 rebounds per game from the guard position, while also dishing out 39 assists as well. In just two seasons in Foggy Bottom, Robertson has totaled 748 career points, putting her on a fast track to become the program's 35th 1,000-point scorer.
SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS
Saint Louis enters the A-10 Championship tournament at 15-17 overall and 9-9 in conference play. The Billikens received a forfeit win last Saturday after Davidson canceled the remainder of its season. Including the forfeit win, Saint Louis has won its last three contests, beating La Salle 78-57 on Feb. 28, and defeating St. Bonaventure 83-61 on Feb. 25. Earlier this season, Saint Louis traveled to the DMV and defeated GW 66-56 on Jan. 20. GW fell behind early, trailing 37-22 at halftime and was never able to recover. The GW Revs managed to outscore Saint Louis 34-29 in the second half, but it wasn't enough in the end. GW holds a 12-8 advantage over Saint Louis in the all-time series, but the Billikens have gotten the best of the Buff & Blue in the two most recent meetings, defeating GW earlier this year and in last season's only matchup. The Billikens are led by Rebecca Tillett, who's in her second season at the helm of the program. She's amassed a 32-35 record with SLU and holds an 83-103 overall record in six seasons as a head coach.
On the court, Saint Louis is paced by all-conference guard Kyla McMakin who averages a team-high 17.2 points per game, which ranks second in the conference. McMakin also averages 2.9 rebounds per games and shoots the ball at a 38.3% clip from the floor. Peyton Kennedy averages 15.8 points a night, good enough for fifth in the conference, while also pulling down 5.2 rebounds per game. Julia Martinez leads the conference in assists per game at 6.3, and she also ties for the team lead in boards a game with 6.5, while also putting in 8.2 ppg. The Billikens have the second-rated offense in the conference, averaging 73.4 ppg. However, SLU struggles defensively, allowing 72.1 ppg, which is last in the A-10.
