Women’s Basketball Concludes Season at A-10 WBB Championship

WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's basketball team concluded its 2023-24 season with a 75-68 loss in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship on Thursday evening.
GW got out to a hot start, aided by five early points from Nya Lok to open the game. The Revolutionaries led by as many as five in the opening minutes, but eventually found themselves tied at 12 midway through the quarter. The GW Revs then closed the final four minutes of the stanza on a 7-2 run, taking a 21-14 lead into the second.
The Buff & Blue continued to build upon its lead early in the second, grabbing a 10-point cushion at the 7:27 mark. Over the next three minutes of game time, Saint Louis used an 11-0 run to take its first lead of the game at 29-28. Both teams would slug it out for the remainder of the frame, with GW holding a slim 36-34 lead at the break. Out of halftime, the first five minutes of the third quarter were tightly contested, neither team could build more than a four-point lead, with GW eventually pushing its advantage to six at the 4:24 mark left in the quarter. The Buff & Blue would continue to pour it on, stretching the lead to 11, leading 56-45 heading into the final 10 minutes of action.
In the fourth quarter, Saint Louis wouldn't be denied, showing why it was so successful in capturing the tournament title a season ago. The Billikens netted 30 total points in the final stanza, outscoring GW 30-12. GW maintained a 61-56 lead with 4:30 left in the quarter, but Saint Louis closed the frame on a 19-7 run to capture the win, coming in clutch with the game on the line.
The loss concludes GW's season with a final record of 13-18. The Revolutionaries were paced by Nya Robertson, who scored a game-high 23 points. Lok concludes her collegiate career with 15 points and three rebounds, while Asjah Inniss recorded 12 points. Essence Brown also got into double figures with 10, while Mayowa Taiwo grabbed a team-high 11 boards. Taiwo, GW's all-time leader in games played with 135, finishes her career with 1,037 rebounds. She's just the third player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career boards.
