GW hosts Boston College Tuesday, Coppin State Wednesday
WASHINGTON - The George Washington University softball team has another two opportunities at home this week. GW welcomes the Boston College Eagles to the GW softball field for the first-ever meeting between the programs on Tuesday (2:00 p.m.), before a familiar foe in the Coppin State Eagles makes the trip to D.C. for a Wednesday afternoon showdown (2:00 p.m.).
HOMESTAND CONTINUES
GW is back at home this week after four-straight games at home over the weekend. The Revolutionaries opened the weekend with an offensive explosion on Saturday, dropping 27-unanswered runs on Cornell to win both games of the doubleheader, 14-6 and 13-0. GW's bats then cooled on Sunday as Stony Brook took both games, 5-0 and 5-3.
HAYWARD'S BIG WEEKEND
First-year outfielder Paige Hayward has found her role in Northwest D.C. Hayward put up huge numbers offensively this past weekend and backed it up with web-gem worthy plays in center field. Hayward went 7-13 (.538) with a 1.384 OPS in the last four games, launching her first home run of the year and adding six RBI, one double and one run scored. Hayward is now second on the team in batting average (.324) and third in RBI (7).
WILLIAMS RETURNS TO FORM
Senior utility Alexa Williams is coming off a productive weekend in which she reminded fans why she earned the title of A-10 Player of the Year in 2022. Williams, playing mostly as the designated player, was 8-15 (.533 avg) with a 1.400 OPS, one home run, two doubles and two RBI and three runs scored in GW's four games. Williams raised her season average to .283 this past weekend as she continues to settle back into her role as a leader on the field.
