WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team fell on Tuesday afternoon, 4-1, to Boston College at the GW Softball Field. The Revolutionaries drop to 6-10 on the season and 3-4 at home.
GW fell behind early, 3-0, giving up a run in three of the first four innings, which made it challenging for the Revolutionaries, who faced a pair of BC pitchers with sub-two ERAs. GW was able to get runners aboard in three of the first four frames, but couldn't string together enough offense to score.
The Revolutionaries made it interesting in the fifth. Singles from Maggie Greco, Alexa Williams and Allison Helffley loaded the bases, but GDUB was only able to cut BC's lead to 3-1, as Ashley Corpuz drew a walk before the Eagles got out of the inning.
BC extended its lead to 4-1 in the top of the seventh, which proved to be enough for the win.
Greco, Corpuz and Alena Ramirez each got on board twice for the Buff & Blue. Ramirez was responsible for GW's only extra-base hit - a double to leadoff the second inning. Cece Smith went the distance for GDUB in the circle, matching her season-high of seven punchouts.
The Revolutionaries return home tomorrow for a 2 p.m. first pitch vs. Coppin State. Game coverage can be found using the livestats link on GWsports.com.
