ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
CORNELL
Cornell started its season last weekend with a 2-3 performance at the Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Fla. Cornell fell to Middle Tennessee, Butler and Bellarmine, before picking up wins over Siena and St. Bonaventure to finish the weekend. The Big Red were 16-26 in 2023, which included a 6-12 mark in true road games.
Lauren Holt leads Cornell at the plate, sporting a .529 average (9-17) with a 1.776 OPS. Holt has hit three home runs in just five games and accounts for nearly half of the team's RBI (14 of 32). In the circle, Maxine McCraw and Madalyn Covelli lead the way, each with five appearances and ERAs over seven.
GW leads the all-time series against the Big Red, 4-3-1, but the two have not met since the 2016 season. All but one game in the series have been decided by two runs or less.Â
STONY BROOK
Stony Brook is off to a 4-6 start and also has a "Power 5" win early in the season, a 7-5 victory over Ohio State. The Seawolves went 3-2 in its most recent tournament, beating Pacific twice, splitting games with Nevada and falling to Creighton. Stony Brook was 29-27 a season ago and reached the CAA Championship semifinals, where it lost to Hofstra in a tight 9-8 battle.Â
The Seawolves are led offensively by Catherine Anne Kupinski, who has a .259 average with a .717 OPS, one double and one home run to date. In the circle, Gabrille Mayday and Ashton Melaas have combined for six starts and 14 appearances, each with an ERA over five.
GW trails Stony Brook 2-0 in the all-time series after meeting for the first time in a doubleheader in 2019, in which both games finished in 6-5 Seawolves' wins.
The Seawolves will battle George Mason in a doubleheader in Fairfax, Va., on Saturday before matching up with the Revolutionaries on Sunday.Â
