RICHMOND, Va. – Behind red-hot shooting from deep, Richmond kept pace with the top of the Atlantic 10 standings, dispatching the George Washington women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon, 83-61.
GW was paced by Essence Brown who scored 14 points off GW's bench. Nya Robertson tallied 12 points and dished out two assists, while Asjah Inniss registered 11 points and four boards. Nya Lok finished with a solid stat line of eight points, four rebounds and four assists, while Mayowa Taiwo chipped in three points and a team-high five rebounds. Richmond was led by Rachel Ullstrom with 24 points and four rebounds.
Richmond's offensive firepower led them early, jumping out to a 13-8 advantage and eventually settling for a 16-13 lead after the first quarter. The Spiders scored 12 of their 16 first-quarter points via the deep ball, hitting four out of five attempts. Richmond slowly built its advantage, leading 25-18 midway through the second quarter. Catching fire at the end of the half, Richmond closed the quarter on a 15-6 run, leading the Buff & Blue 40-26 at the break.
GW attempted a comeback in the third quarter, using a 9-2 run to cut the Spiders' lead down to nine on two different occasions, but Richmond's stellar shooting from long range proved to be too much to overcome. The Spiders shot 75% (6-8) from deep in the second half, not allowing GW within single digits after the 3:26 mark in the third quarter. In total, Richmond shot 58.3% (28-48) from the field and 68.4% (13-19) from downtown, while GW finished with a field goal percentage of 33.9% (20-59) and a three-point percentage of 28.9% (11-38).
The GW Revs return to Foggy Bottom on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. matchup with La Salle. Wednesday's contest marks the Revolutionaries' Play 4 Kay Game and will also serve as a Valentine's Day Pink Out contest. Live coverage will be available on ESPN+.
