WASHINGTON - In a prime-time matchup that brings nearby foe Towson to Foggy Bottom, the George Washington women's basketball team will look for three wins in a row in the home slate, Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. on Monumental Sports Network and ESPN+. George Wallace and Abe Rothstein will be on the call for the broadcast.
Last time out GW was knocked back to .500 overall in a road tilt at Ohio. In that contest, Filipa Calisto got into double figures with 11 points and four rebounds for the first time in her GW career. The junior transfer shot 5-for-8 from the floor and 1-for-3 from deep, while Mariona Planes Fortuny put up 10 points for GW in the paint, connecting on five field goals in the contest. Both of GW's losses this season have come on the road.
The GW Revs are back in the friendly confines of Smith Center now for the next five games, where the venue has been warm and the iron kind. Averaging 83.5 ppg in its two home wins, George Washington welcomes in the Tigers, who have yet to win a game in four tries this season. Towson most recently lost at Maryland Sunday, 98-63, and among other setbacks this season -- all away from home -- was dealt a 76-55 defeat at George Mason.
Paced by India Johnston, who scored 22 at Maryland and averages 12.5 points per game, Towson was picked to finish third in the preseason Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) poll, but has been without First Team preseason CAA member Patricia Anumgba all season.
For GW, one-time A-10 Rookie of the Week Gabby Reynolds looks to get back on track after being held without a field goal last game. The fantastic frosh still leads GW entering play in scoring at 12.5 ppg, setting the stage for a showdown with Johnston Wednesday night.
