Women's Basketball Bounced in the Bronx, 60-55

A pair of traditional A-10 clubs met at Rose Hill Gym in New York City on Saturday, with both George Washington and Fordham looking to secure its second win of the conference season. 40 minutes of stout defense later, it was the host Rams who were crowned the victors, 60-55.
Neither side found much success offensively in the face of the strong defense of the opposition, but Fordham managed to corral 21 of its wayward field goal tries, out-rebounding GW 21-10 on the offensive end to parlay a 19-9 advantage in second chance points into the five-point win. Overall the Rams had six players get at least two offensive boards in a team-rebounding effort.
A highlight for the GW Revs came in the opening minutes of the contest, when Nya Lok, after getting GW on the board with a jumper 1:06 into play, canned a three-pointer at the 7:43 mark to knot the game at five and cash in on the 1,000th point of her collegiate career. She later gave GDUB an 8-7 lead with a free throw, but that would be the last time George Washington would lead.
To the credit of GW, the road warriors stared down a double-digit deficit on multiple occasions, and came all the way back to knot the game at 55 on Asjah Inniss' first points of the game - a three-point play the hard way - with 1:02 remaining. The and-one was part of a 17-7 run from the 7:56 mark, in which Nya Robertson netted 11. However, turnovers on the Revolutionaries' final three possessions disallowed any field goal attempts in the final 1:02, allowing Fordham to finish the contest on a 5-0 spurt.
GW out-shot Fordham, .400 - .338, but the Rams additional 15 field goals attempted made the guests' climb that much more difficult. Robertson finished with a game-high 19 points.
While the Rams were able to snap their seven-game slide, GW will look for its first win in five tries to snap a four-game skid when it hosts Rhode Island on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
