Junior hurled complete game on second Sunday in a row
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - GW baseball junior pitcher Chris Kahler was named the A-10 Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row, the league announced on Monday.
Following up on his complete-game effort vs. Fordham last weekend, Kahler delivered the goods on Sunday in the series-finale victory over VCU. The game was critical for GW's postseason chances as the Buff & Blue forged a three-way tie for the final tournament spot and earned an eventual tiebreaker over the Rams.
Kahler was on from the start, facing the minimum through 5.2 innings with only one runner reaching via a walk, who was immediately erased on a double play. The Coral Springs, Fla., native took his no-hitter into the sixth and kept VCU off the board until the eighth inning.
In a one-run game, Kahler then stranded the tying run on base in both the eighth and ninth innings to earn his third win of the year. He struck out 10 batters for the second time in as many games, matching his career-high.
Kahler now stands at 3-3 on the year with a 3.38 ERA that ranks fourth in the A-10. He is one of just nine pitchers nationally with three complete games on the season and one off the national lead. Kahler is first in the A-10 with a WHIP of 1.08, is third in hits allowed per 9 IP (6.88) and fourth in strikeouts (62).
