The Colonials and Rams go head-to-head on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
WASHINGTON – George Washington women's basketball will gear up for a massive Atlantic 10 clash on Wednesday when it travels to Kingston, R.I. to face the Atlantic 10 leading Rams. GW is looking for its first six-game win streak since 2016-17, while the Rams are hoping to move to 11-0 in A-10 play and 12-0 at the Thomas M. Ryan Center. Tip-off between the two sides is slated for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
DEFENSE ON POINT
During GW's season-high five-game win streak, the Colonials have relied on their defensive skills to lead the way. Over the five games, GW is allowing just 54 points per game to opponents, including a season-low 39 points against last time out against George Mason.
The team has been especially stingy from beyond the arc, as GW's opponents are shooting an abysmal 19 percent from long range over the last five games.
GW will enter Wednesday's contest sporting the second-best scoring defense in the A-10. The Colonials are allowing just 60.7 points against this season, and they have held their opponents to under 60 points in three-straight contests.
ROOKIE AND A VET
On Sunday against George Mason, Mia Lakstigala and Nya Robertson each scored in double figures to lead the GW attack. It was the 12th time this year that the graduate student and first-year have scored double-digit points in the same game.
In those contests, the Colonials are 10-2, they're averaging 67.8 points, and they've outscored their opponent by a margin of +9.2. Additionally, Robertson is averaging 16.9 points across those 12 contests while Lakstigala is averaging 15.3 points.
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
At 19-3 overall and 10-0 in Atlantic 10 play, Rhode Island has been one of the most formidable teams in the country this season. URI's attack is averaging 69.7 points per game while the team's scoring defense enters Wednesday as the top-ranked unit in the A-10, allowing just 56.9 points.
As good as the Rams have been overall in 2022-23, they've been even more dominant at home. Rhode Island has crushed teams by a scoring margin of +20.8 at the Thomas M. Ryan Center en route to a perfect 11-0 record.
Individually, Maye Toure will lead the talented Rhode Island roster against GDUB. The French national is first on the team in points per game (14.0), rebounds per game (8.6) and blocks (20), and she's firing at a 53.9 percent clip.
HISTORY AGAINST THE RAMS
Wednesday will be the 52nd meeting between the Atlantic 10 rivals. George Washington owns a 44-7 record against Rhode Island in the head-to-head series, but the Colonials will be looking for revenge after the Rams defeated them in their only meeting last season, 73-42.
