The Colonials host the Patriots at 12 p.m. on Sunday
WASHINGTON – George Washington women's basketball will look to push its current winning streak to a season-high five games when it welcomes George Mason to the Charles E. Smith Center for a Sunday afternoon matinee. Tip-off between the two sides is scheduled for noon with live coverage available on NBC Sports Washington and ESPN+.
WIN STREAK BY THE NUMBERS
With wins over VCU, Loyola Chicago, Dayton, and Duquesne, George Washington has put together its second four-game win streak this season and is quickly flying up the Atlantic 10 standings.
During the four-game stretch, GDUB is averaging 68.5 points a night and has outscored its opponents by an average of 10.5 points. The win streak has been fueled by strong play on both sides of the court at the three-point line, as the Colonials are averaging 10 threes a game during the streak while holding opponents to a 19 percent shooting clip from long range.
Individually, both Nya Robertson and Mia Lakstigala are averaging 18 points a game during the streak, while Mayowa Taiwo is averaging a double-double (14.3 points, 10.3 rebounds).
SMITH CENTER SUCCESS
Another major factor in both GW's current win streak and its overall success this season has been its dominance at home. Entering Sunday's game, GW has a 9-2 record at the Charles E. Smith Center and the team is also riding a four-game home win streak.
Over its 11 home contests, GDUB has outscored its opponents 67-57 and is shooting 39.9 percent from the field. The Buff & Blue are also averaging 40.4 rebounds and 12.7 assists per game.
Historically, GW's 9-2 start at the Smith Center is its best home start to a campaign since 2016-17. That season, George Washington went 11-3 at the Smith Center, an overall record that the current squad could surpass if they knock off George Mason, Loyola Chicago, and Davidson in their final three home contests.
LAST TIME AGAINST GEORGE MASON
Sunday will be the second of two meetings between George Washington and George Mason. Mason upended GW in the first meeting between the two rivals, 67-57, on Jan. 16th.
During the two sides' MLK Day battle, George Washington was able to whittle a 20-point deficit down to as little as eight in the fourth quarter, but it was ultimately unable to complete the comeback. The Patriots shot a scorching 54 percent from the field in the victory, including 66 percent from long range.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
George Mason will enter the second installment of the Revolutionary Rivalry at 11-12 overall and 4-6 in Atlantic 10 play. The Patriots have hit a rough patch recently, having lost three of their last four games.
Players to watch include junior Taylor Jameson, who leads the team in scoring with 13.3 points per game, and Washington, D.C. native Nalani Kaysia, who leads the team in rebounding (7.9 rpg).
