WASHINGTON – Following a season-opening win against Howard on Monday, the George Washington women's basketball team is set to take on Manhattan Friday night. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. in NYC with live coverage provided on ESPN+.
ROBERTSON'S CAREER NIGHT
Sophomore Nya Robertson put together a career night on Monday to open the 2023-24 season. Robertson poured in a career-high 29 points and pulled down a career-high tying six rebounds to lead GW past the Bison, 64-58. Robertson knocked down eight triples in the process, tying the program record for most threes made in a single game. The original mark of eight was set by Cathy Joens during the 2004 season. Robertson also set a new program record for most threes attempted in a single game with 18.
TAIWO HITS REBOUND MILESTONE
With seven rebounds on Monday, grad student Mayowa Taiwo eclipsed 800 career rebounds. Taiwo is just the ninth player in program history to hit that mark, the first since Caia Washington in 2017. Taiwo is just 200 rebounds and 223 points shy of 1,000 for her career in each category. If she reaches both, she'll become just the third player in program history to record 1,000 career points and rebounds. The previous two players to achieve the feat were Washington in 2017 and Darlene Saar in 1995.
HISTORY AGAINST THE JASPERS
Friday's matchup with Manhattan will mark the sixth meeting all-time between the programs. Last season, GW pulled out a 68-56 win despite falling behind 21-12 after the first quarter. Last year's matchup was the first time the teams had faced each other since the 1983 season. GW leads the all-time series 3-2 with both teams alternating wins in the past five matchups.
