The Colonials and Dukes get underway Wednesday at 6 p.m.
WASHINGTON – Following a dominant win over Dayton last Saturday, George Washington women's basketball will look to push its winning streak to four when it welcomes the Duquesne Dukes to town for a Wednesday evening clash. Tip-off between the two sides is scheduled for 6 p.m. with live coverage available on ESPN+.
REPPIN' PINK FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Wednesday's matchup against Duquesne will be GW's annual Pink Game. Fans who arrive early to the Smith Center will receive a pair of pink sunglasses as well as an "I Play For" sign that can be held up during an in-game ceremony honoring members of the community who have been impacted by cancer.
When the Buff & Blue take the court, they'll do so repping their pink accented jerseys courtesy of adidas. In addition to the Pink Game's association with the fight against cancer, over the last decade, it has also been a harbinger of success for GDUB. Since 2012, GW boasts an impressive 10-1 record in its annual Pink Game.
ALL OF THE REBOUNDS
With another double-digit rebounding performance against Dayton, Mayowa Taiwo is establishing herself as not only the premier rebounder in the Atlantic 10, but as one of the best in the entire country.
Entering this week of action, Taiwo ranks 13th in the NCAA in total rebounds (220), 26th in the country in rebounds per game (10.0), and 5th in offensive rebounds per game (4.7).
Over her last seven games, Taiwo has been especially dominant. The redshirt senior is averaging 12.4 boards a night and has had at least 15 rebounds in three of the last seven games.
THAT 70'S SHOW
GDUB put on another superb scoring performance last Saturday, dropping 71 points in the win over Dayton. GW also dropped 75 points in its win last week over Loyola Chicago, giving the Colonials their first pair of back-to-back 70+ point games since the 2019-20 season.
This year, GDUB has six games with at least 70+ points scored, which is the most in a season since 2016-17. George Washington has a 6-1 record this year when scoring at least 70 points.
SCOUTING THE DUKES
Duquesne enters Wednesday's matchup with the same 14-8 overall record as GW, but the Dukes sit at 4-5 in A-10 play. In Duquesne's last game, the team was routed at home by UMass, 83-61.
Individually, Duquesne has been led by the impressive all-around play of sophomore Megan McConnell. The Pittsburgh native has recorded two triple-doubles already this year, which is tied for the most in the country with Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark. Entering Wednesday night, McConnell is averaging 10.8 points per game, 9.8 rebounds per game and 5.5 assists per game.
HISTORY AGAINST DUQUESNE
GW and Duquesne will play their 73rd game against each other on Wednesday night. The Colonials have crushed the Dukes in the all-time series, holding a 57-15 head-to-head record. In the two teams' only meeting last year, GW brought home a gritty 50-48 road win. The victory was Coach McCombs' first-ever Atlantic 10 victory.
