Walker leads GW with two goals
AMHERST, Mass. – GW lacrosse dropped a 22-8 decision at No. 17 UMass on Friday at Garber Field.
After the Minutewomen began their offense scoring two unanswered after the opening draw, three-straight scores from Sophia Watkinson, Tori Hampton and Phoebe Mullarkey gave the visitors a narrow 3-2 edge over the nationally-ranked team. However, UMass went on to outscore GW 14-1, boosted by 13-straight scores, and headed into the break with a 16-4 cushion.
After the home team tacked on one more in the opening minute of the third quarter, GW went on its own scoring run, with goals from Amber Germer, Katie Lederman and a pair from Katelyn Walker. However, Walker's second score of the day in the final seconds of the third frame would be GW's last, as the home team quieted the GW offense in the fourth, scoring five more times to remain undefeated in conference play.
GW took 11 shots on the day, with all 11 put on net. Megan Patrick made 12 saves on 34 shots faced.
