Mullarkey nets second hat trick of the season
FAIRFAX, Va. – GW lacrosse dropped a 14-10 decision in a back-and-forth contest at George Mason on Sunday.
The conference rivals traded goals in the opening minutes of the first quarter before the Patriots' offense rolled to a 7-2 lead after a four-goal scoring run. However, Katelyn Walker and Phoebe Mullarkey sparked GW's offense with two goals apiece and Emily Mowbray tallied the tying goal at seven to complete GW's 5-0 scoring run early in the third quarter.
A pair of goals from the Patriots gave the home team another advantage before GW forced another tie at nine after goals from Katie Lederman and Mullarkey. George Mason created its third two-goal separation before Walker found a cutting Amber Gemer to put GW back within one with 12:23 left in the fourth quarter.
Three-straight Mason goals put the contest out of reach for GW, as the Patriots picked up their second win of A-10 play.
Mullarkey scored her second hat trick of the season, leading GW with three goals. GW held the 29-24 advantage in shots, led by Kendall Lambert with six. In net, Megan Patrick made seven saves on 21 shots faced.
