The Colonials will look to continue undefeated start to A-10 play
WASHINGTON - George Washington baseball resumes A-10 play this weekend, hosting Dayton for a three-game series from Tucker Field. The Colonials will kick off the series on Friday at 3:00 p.m., followed by games Saturday at 1:00 p.m., and Sunday at noon. Games on Friday and Sunday will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT:
GW was unable to hold on to an early 4-0 lead against Towson on Tuesday, falling 9-6. The Tigers scored eight unanswered runs in the middle innings, and while GW brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, a double play snuffed out the Colonials' comeback hopes. Despite the loss, six different Colonials picked up a hit, including Noah Levin and Anthony Frechette, who both had multi-hit afternoons.
STEVE SURE CAN HIT:
Last time out, Steve DiTomaso picked up his 52nd hit of the season with a home run. DiTomaso's 52 knocks are not only the most in the A-10, but the Colonials' shortstop also ranks second in the country in hits this season, trailing only Texas' Murphy Stehly, who has 57. Entering this weekend's series, the Colonials' shortstop is slashing an impressive .403/.439/.574 and is riding a career-high 14-game hit streak.
FIRST-INNING FIREPOWER:
Against Towson, George Washington pushed a run across in the first inning for the fifth straight game, and 12th time this year. The Colonials' offense has been a force in the first, batting .336 as a team with 40 hits and 25 runs scored. Individually, GW has seven batters with at least a .300 batting average in the opening inning.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS:
Dayton enters this weekend's series at 11-13 and 1-2 in A-10 play. The Flyers began their conference slate last weekend by dropping two of three to Rhode Island. So far this season, the Flyers have struggled to find consistent offense. Dayton ranks in the bottom three in the A-10 in batting average, hits and on-base percentage. However, the Flyers can still get on via the walk, as they rank fourth in the A-10 with 115 base on balls.
Individually, Jay Curtis is the player to watch for UD. The senior leads the team in batting average (.319), hits (29) and doubles (7), and is second on the Flyers in RBIs (17).
