Buff & Blue aim to claim A-10 series victory
GW softball will aim for its fifth Atlantic 10 series win in as many opportunities on Tuesday when it welcomes George Mason to the Mount Vernon Campus for the rescheduled finale of a three-game set.Â
It's a 3 p.m. first pitch with the action streamed via ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT:Â GW and George Mason split the first two games of the series in a Saturday doubleheader. The Buff and Blue scored twice in the bottom of the sixth on the way to a 2-1 win in the opener before the Patriots won the second game, 4-3, in eight innings.
Sierra Lange led the way in the circle, allowing just a pair of runs while striking out 10 over 10 2/3 innings of work, including a complete-game victory to start the day.
Offensively, the bottom of the order provided a spark. Maddy Dwyer and Maddie Spell drove in the runs in the victory, and Valentina Perrone and Darbie Stancil had RBI hits in the second game.
TAKE TWO:Â Hannah Eslick leads the squad and ranks second in the A-10 with 10 doubles through 34 games. The veteran shortstop from Glen Burnie, Md., entered the spring with nine doubles in 132 games over her first three seasons as a member of the Buff and Blue.
In her final collegiate campaign, Eslick is slashing .286/.352/.418 and has already set a career high with 16 runs scored.
As a team, GW leads the conference at 1.59 doubles per game and ranks second in total doubles with 54.
TAKE THREE:Â Lange's bases-loaded triple in a home win vs. Georgetown on March 30 was the 14th three-bagger of her decorated career.
The graduate student from Plano, Texas, is just one behind GW Athletics Hall of Famer and groundbreaking Olympian Elana Meyers Taylor for most triples in program history. She ranks tied for 13th among all active D-I student-athletes nationally in that category, as well.
To get there, Lange hit two in 2018, six in 2019 and four last season before adding two more this spring.
UP NEXT:Â GW heads to Rhode Island this weekend for a three-game series. The Buff and Blue will face the Rams in a Saturday doubleheader before a single game on Sunday. The action starts at noon both days.
