Buff & Blue face tough slate at Liberty Invitational
GW softball will look to continue building momentum as it heads to the Liberty Invitational for five games in its final weekend before Atlantic 10 play.
The Buff and Blue will tangle with Lehigh, No. 25 Notre Dame, Rutgers and James Madison over three days at Liberty Softball Stadium in Lynchburg, Va.
LAST TIME OUT:Â GW won three of four games at last weekend's Liberty Classic, punctuated by a Saturday sweep of Charleston Southern.
Mia Parker was named A-10 Player of the Week after slashing .417/.462/.917 with four extra-base hits and four RBIs in as many games.
Sierra Lange claimed the conference Pitcher of the Week award for the seventh time in her career after winning all three of her starts while compiling a 1.75 ERA with 21 strikeouts over 20 innings. The graduate student from Plano, Texas, pitched all 14 frames of the twin bill vs. the Buccaneers on the way to her 71st and 72nd victories as a member of the Buff and Blue.
MIGHTY MIA: Parker has her season off to a fantastic start with a .303 batting average and five extra-base hits thus far. The Los Angeles native already has more hits through 12 games (10) than her career total entering the spring (nine), boosted by her first career three-hit performance last Saturday in an 8-2 win over Charleston Southern.
POWERING UP: Boosted by Parker's four doubles and a home run, GW piled up 13 extra-base hits over the four games at the Liberty Classic. Six different Buff and Blue student-athletes combined to total eight doubles, three triples and a pair of home runs.
Lange recorded a double, a triple and a home run on the weekend, and Maggie Greco legged out a pair of three-baggers. Darbie Stancil's double in the finale was her first career extra-base hit.
COME ON HOME:Â Alexa Williams drove in four runs last weekend to boost her team-leading RBI total to nine through 12 games. After knocking in 41 runs during her All-Conference rookie season, the El Cajon, Calif., native has 50 RBIs in 60 career contests.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION:Â Lehigh had last weekend off after going 2-3 during its opening tournament down at NC State. The Mountain Hawks, led by 2021 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year Carley Barjaktarovich, were picked runner-up in their conference preseason poll.

Rutgers won four of its five games last weekend to push its record to 11-4 on the season. Two of the Scarlet Knights' losses came to ranked foes at the season-opening Puerto Vallarta Challenge.
A surprise College World Series participant a year ago, James Madison has dropped out of the national polls amid a 3-5 start. The Dukes lost all four of its contests last weekend at the UCF Knights Classic.
UP NEXT:Â GW opens A-10 play next Saturday at Saint Joseph's on the same field where it celebrated a conference title last spring. The Buff and Blue will be at home for the first time the following weekend when Fordham visits the Mount Vernon Campus for a three-game set.
