WASHINGTON- Following an impressive offensive outburst in its last game, George Washington baseball will look to keep the bats hot this weekend against Hofstra. The three-game series against the Pride begins Friday at 3 p.m., followed by a double header Saturday with game one beginning at 11:30 a.m. Live coverage of all three contests will be available on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT:
On Wednesday, the Buff & Blue put together their best offensive performance of the spring, scoring a season-high 13 runs against Coppin State. GW scored in five of the final seven innings against the Eagles, and eight different batters picked up a hit. Eddie Micheletti Jr., Cade Fergus, and Mike Ludowig led the team with three baseknocks each, while leadoff hitter Tim Nicholson extended his on-base streak to 11 games with a single in the first.
EDDIE MONEY:
Over the last three games, Micheletti has been the hottest hitter in the Colonials' lineup. The sophomore is 7-for-11 (.636) with four doubles and six RBIs, and has seen his average jump up more than 100 points from .182 to .295. Micheletti's five doubles this season are tied for fifth-most in the A-10, while his 21 total bases are tied for 10th in the conference.
OFFENSE IS CLICKING:
Despite a slow start to the season, the Buff & Blue's offense has found its stride and is near the top of the A-10 in several categories. Entering this weekend's series, GW is second in the conference in hits (104) and among the top five in the A-10 in total bases (146) and slugging percentage (.360).
Individually, Micheletti, Nicholson and Steve DiTomaso all sit in the top 25 in the A-10 in hits, while Nicholson is also top 10 in runs scored.
SCOUTING THE PRIDE:
Hofstra enters 2022 with a new skipper at the helm of its program. The Pride named former Major Leaguer Frank Catalanotto as the program's 15th head coach this past July. Prior to Hofstra, Catalanotto served as the head coach of New York Tech for two seasons.
Hofstra enters this weekend's matchup at 4-4, but the Pride have lost back-to-back contests. Individually, Hofstra is led by senior Brian Morrell, who boasts an impressive .462 batting average after beginning the season 12-of-26, and junior outfielder Will Kennedy, who was named to the Preseason All-CAA Team.
