Tip-off between the Colonials and Patriots is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. on ESPN+
WASHINGTON - George Washington women's basketball has been on a roll as of late. The team has won three straight games, and will look to push its win streak to a season-high four in a row when they welcome George Mason to the Charles E. Smith Center for a midweek battle. The latest chapter of the Revolutionary Rivalry is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday night, with live coverage available on ESPN+.
STRONG AGAINST SLU
On Monday afternoon against Saint Louis, GW played its best game of the season. Offensively against the Billikens, GW tied its season high with 26 field goals made, including knocking down seven threes in a game for the first time since Dec. 21st. GW also set a new season-high in assists against Saint Louis, dishing out 17 dimes.
Defensively, GW held the Billikens to just 41 points, the fewest a GW opponent has scored since West Chester scored 31 on Dec. 28th. The Colonials' defense was especially smothering from downtown, as they held SLU to just three three-pointers on 15.8 percent shooting. The Billikens' shooting clip from three was the second lowest mark for a GW opponent this season, and lowest since James Madison shot just 13.8 percent on Dec. 2nd.
AN OFFENSIVE STREAK THAT'S TWICE AS NICE
For the second time this season, GW has won three straight games. During the team's opening month, the Colonials rattled off three in a row against ODU, Quinnipiac, and UT Martin. While GW's earlier streak was impressive, the numbers show that this time around, the Colonials are playing a much more complete offensive game. Currently, GW is shooting 38 percent from the field over its three-game win streak, compared to 33.4 percent back in November. GW is also averaging almost 10 points more per game (57.6), compared to its earlier streak (49 ppg).
SHESLANIE'S SHOOTING STATS
While several members of the Colonials roster have taken their game up a notch during the team's hot streak, Sheslanie Laureano deserves credit for being GW's offensive answer. Over the last four games, the junior has scored in the double figures three times, while averaging 13.2 ppg and shooting 47.9 percent from the field.
LAST TIME AGAINST GEORGE MASON
Wednesday will mark the second meeting this season between Revolutionary Rivalry foes George Washington and George Mason. The first match-up between the two sides took place in Fairfax, VA on January 29th, with the Patriots coming away with the 52-46 victory.
In the contest, the Colonials got off to a rocky start by allowing Mason to go on a 21-4 first quarter run. GW made it close in the second half, overcoming a 19-point deficit to force a tie game going into the fourth quarter. However, Mason was able to score 14 in the final frame to wrap up the victory.
