Women's Basketball Continues December Homestand Against UVA

Colonials face off with Cavs for the first time since 2007
WASHINGTON - After an impressive late game defensive stand against JMU, George Washington women's basketball welcomes another team from the Commonwealth of Virginia to D.C. on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off between GW and the Virginia Cavaliers is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 5th, with live coverage on NBC Sports Washington Plus and ESPN+.
50/50:
Through the first eight games of the season, 50 seems to be the magic number for George Washington. On the offensive side of the ball, GW has scored at least 50 points in three of its last four games, and the Colonials boast a 3-1 record this season when they score at least 50 points.
Defensively, GW continues to be a thorn in its opponents side, having now limited the opposition to 50 points or less in six out of the team's eight games this season. Additionally, Caroline McCombs' squad is the first GW team since 1975-76 to hold its opponents to 50 points or less in six of its first eight games.
WE DON'T DO STARGAZING:
If you are an opponent's leading scorer, then coming out of the tunnel to face the vaunted GW defense is the last place that you want to be. Eight games into the 2021 season, GW has held its opponent's leading scorer to an average of just 11.5 points per game, and only 35 percent shooting from the field.
A VIEW AT VIRGINIA:
Following a 2020-21 season that was marred by injuries — including a cancelled scheduled visit to GW — and Covid cancellations, UVA entered this year picked last in the ACC. The Cavaliers experienced a large shift in their team makeup from last year, bringing in four transfer students, including two-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year Eleah Parker from Penn.
Currently sitting at 2-6 through the first eight games of the season, UVA have been unable to find consistency. The Cavaliers opened up their campaign losing four in a row before winning their first game against Fullerton. The Cavaliers only other win this season came in their last contest, a 60-44 victory against William & Mary. Offensively, UVA relies on the services of Camryn Taylor (15.2 ppg) and Amandine Toi (12.5 ppg) to pace their attack.
