Colonials and Rams tip-off at noon
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball completes its five-game stretch away from the Smith Center on Wednesday afternoon with a noon tip against preseason favorite VCU. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
SEASON OF ACTION: GW is proud to host its own Pride week from Jan. 20-27 to stand in support with the LGBTQIA+ community. Over the week, the program will be sharing info about national and D.C.-based organizations.
Assistant coach Kevin DeMille has launched a donation drive, joined by head coach Jennifer Rizzotti, benefiting The Trevor Project, the world's largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ youth, and The DC Center for the LGBTQ Community. A donation will be made for each GW assist over the next three games to The Trevor Project, and a donation will be made for each GW forced turnover during that span to The DC Center for the LGBTQ Community. Fans are encouraged to join the fundraiser by contributing an amount of their choice to each organization.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER: GW relied upon its graduate student duo - Jasmine Whitney and Sydney Zambrotta - to carry the scoring load over the weekend in Philly. The two combined for 27 points on Friday at La Salle and 25 at Saint Joseph's, providing 49% of the team's offensive output in the two games.
RISING TO THE TOP: First-year Ali Brigham's 16 points on Sunday moved her atop the team in scoring with 10.7 ppg. Brigham has now reached double digits eight times this year, cresting 15 points in two of the last three games (18 at Mason, 16 at St. Joe's). Brigham is third among A-10 freshmen in scoring and FG% (48.4).
A LOOK AT THE RAMS: VCU was established as the preseason favorite in the A-10 after advancing to the championship game a year ago and falling at Dayton. The Rams won their first four league games, two in overtime and two by 19+, but have dropped consecutive matchups to Massachusetts and Richmond at home by two possessions. VCU has a quartet of double-digit scorers, led by Tera Reed, who paces the Rams with 13.8 ppg. Taya Robinson (13.3), Sarah Te-Biasu (11.1) and Sydnei Archie (10.2) round out the group averaging at least 10.0 ppg.
