Colonials named top A-10 class, rank 17th among mid-majors
WASHINGTON -Â GW men's tennis incoming recruiting class of Gabe Hurtado and Garrett Skelly earned national acclaim from the Tennis Recruiting Network on Monday, ranking 17th among all mid-majors.
Additionally, the Colonials had the highest-ranked incoming class in the Atlantic 10. Overall, the league had three teams in the top 25, the second-most of any mid-major conference.
Authored each of the last 15 years, the TRN mid-major rankings include all colleges outside of the Power 5 (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC) and the Ivy League. This year's ranking marks the best recruiting class for the Colonials since hauling in the #9 mid-major class in 2014.
"We are excited to have the 17th-ranked mid major recruiting class in the country," said head coach Rob Castille. "We wanted to make sure we were bringing in talented players that were also high-quality people and would fit in well with the culture of the team and university. That is definitely the case with Garrett and Gabe.Â
"They will be great additions to the team and will help continue to move the program forward. We are excited for them to join us this fall and can't wait to get started!"Â
Skelly is rated as a five-star recruit by TRN and is the #50 player in the Class of 2020 and has a UTR of 12.14. The Woodlands, Texas, native is the first five-star recruit for GW since 2013.
Hurtado, a native of Colombia, is not rated on the star scale due to his international status, but is ranked as the #35 player in the class and has a UTR of 12.07. He's also 189th in the junior ITF world ranking.
