Colonials look for season sweep of Dukes at 7:30 p.m.
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball plays its final road game of the regular season on Saturday evening, visiting Duquesne in the second part of a home-and-home. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
UNPRECEDENTED YOUTH: GW used its 13th different starting lineup on Wednesday at Dayton, making history with four first-year starters - Faith Blethen, Essence Brown, Tori Hyduke and Mayowa Taiwo. It marked the first time in program history since at least 1990 (last year available via record book) that GW started four freshmen in the same game.
SHE'S HEATING UP: Hyduke has seemingly found her offensive rhythm the last three games, averaging 10.3 ppg with a pair of double-digit efforts. Hyduke was the team's top scorer in non-conference play at 12.4 ppg and reached double digits 10 times in her first 13 games. However, she was held below double figures in each of the first 10 conference games before her recent breakout.
Dating back to the VCU game, Hyduke is shooting 53% from the floor (14/26) and 57% from beyond the arc (8/14), including a perfect 3-of-3 day from deep at Dayton on Wednesday.
RESERVE ENERGY: GW's bench has provided nearly half of the team's production the last six games, combining for 151 of the team's 316 points. Last Saturday's 32 points from the bench were a season high and the ninth performance of 20 or more points in 13 league games. Sophomore Kayla Mokwuah poured in 10 points in a reserve role on Wednesday, giving GW 15 double-digit efforts off the bench this year, 12 of which have come in league play.
GW owns a 151-68 edge in bench points over its last six games and is now +115 (277-162) in the category during league play (+8.8 per game), receiving an average of 21.3 per game.
HISTORY VS. DUQUESNE: The Dukes are GW's most common A-10 opponent, with Saturday's game representing the 70th all-time meeting between the programs. The Buff & Blue have a decided all-time advantage, winning 54 meetings, their most against any A-10 program. Recently, though, the series has been marked by four Duquesne victories in the last six encounters. Four of the last five meetings, including the previous matchup on Jan. 8, have been decided by five points or fewer.
A LOOK AT THE DUKES: Duquesne brings the league's top scoring (69.5 ppg), shooting (41.9%) and 3-point shooting offense (35.1%) into Saturday's matchup with GW. The Dukes feature a trio of double-figure scorers in Libby Bazelak (13.3), Laia Sole (11.6) and Amanda Kalin (10.2), who combined for 32 points in the first matchup with the Colonials. Duquesne snapped a brief two-game skid with a comeback victory over Rhode Island on Wednesday, marking its fifth double-digit comeback of the campaign.
