Colonials and Patriots reignite Revolutionary Rivalry at 2 p.m.
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball hosts its annual Pink Game on Saturday afternoon, welcoming in Revolutionary Rival George Mason for a 2 p.m. tip at the Smith Center.
All fans attending are encouraged to wear pink and will receive a free pink foam finger courtesy of the GW Cancer Center. The Colonials will also be donning special pink-accented uniforms for the occasion.
REBOUND ROAD: GW recorded a season-high 46 rebounds in Wednesday's setback to La Salle, including an eye-popping 22 on the offensive end. Ten of the 22 o-boards came in the fourth quarter when GW was attempting to overcome a 14-point hole. The 22 extra opportunities led to 18 second-chance points, also a season best. For the year, GW is fourth in the league in rebounding defense, limiting foes to 35.0 rebounds per game, just 0.5 off the pace of league-leading Fordham.

TAI-WOW: Redshirt freshman Mayowa Taiwo benefitted from the emphasis on rebounding, netting her second career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds against the Explorers. Four of her caroms came on the offensive end, improving her to third in the A-10 in o-boards (2.7) per game in league play.
Taiwo has also appeared to turn the corner on the offensive end, leading the team and ranking third in the A-10 with her 52.2% field goal percentage in league games. Over her last six contests, she is averaging 8.5 ppg and 7.2 rpg while shooting 66.7% from the floor.
YOUTH MOVEMENT: GW's four first-years have had to shoulder the load more than any other group in the A-10 so far. The group of Faith Blethen, Essence Brown, Tori Hyduke and Mayowa Taiwo has played a league-leading 47% of the team's minutes, and Hyduke, Blethen and Taiwo rank first, second and third, respectively, in terms of total minutes played on the team this year this season.
HISTORY VS. GEORGE MASON: The Colonials look to snap a three-game skid in the series with their Revolutionary Rival, the longest winless streak since dropping three in a row during non-conference action in 2001, 2002 and 2009. GW is 12-3 against the Patriots since the latter joined the A-10 in 2013-14 and holds a 14-3 mark all-time at the Smith Center.
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS: George Mason has struggled in conference play, dropping nine of 10 since besting the Colonials in the A-10 opener. The lone triumph came on Feb. 5 over UMass (73-56). Reigning A-10 Player of the Year Nicole Cardaño-Hillary is second in the league in scoring at 17.8 ppg and was right on her average in the first meeting with 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists. The story of the first encounter was Tamia Lawhorne, who scored a career-high 22 points, most of which came during a critical 24-11 third quarter for the Patriots that erased a three-point GW halftime lead.
