Colonials close 2020 with noon tip on Sunday
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball completes its non-conference schedule with a Sunday matinee against Delaware. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. with the game streamed live on ESPN+.
SEASON OF ACTION: This week, GW thanked all of the essential workers who have made the season possible, including the Smith Center housekeepers. Members of the program presented Michelle, Phil and James with thank you cards and team apparel to show gratitude for their efforts during these unprecedented times.
BOARD BATTLE: GW had a season-high 52 rebounds on Sunday at Howard, including 31 on the offensive end. It was the most prolific day on the glass for the Buff & Blue in a non-overtime game since snagging 52 against Syracuse on Nov. 25, 2016. GW last accrued at least 30 offensive rebounds in regulation against Hartford on Dec. 30, 2015.
LODER'S BREAKOUT: Junior Maddie Loder was the lone Colonial in double figures at Howard with 17 points, one shy of her career high set last year at Memphis. It was a welcome sign to see the ball go through the net for Loder, who previously was 6-of-34 (17.6%) from the floor and had missed her first 16 long-balls this year.
MILESTONE WATCH: Graduate transfer Jasmine Whitney dished out a season-high six assists on Sunday at Howard, increasing her career total to 393 in 96 games. Whitney ranks 13th among all active Division I players in career assists, while her 4.1 apg are the 10th most among active players.
A LOOK AT THE BLUE HENS: Delaware is 3-0 for the first time since 2016-17 and is coming off a 10-day layoff since defeating St. John's, 93-88, on Dec. 10. The Blue Hens have scored at least 85 points in all of their games this season, including an 85-79 win at Pittsburgh. As a result, UD is second in the nation in scoring (as of Friday) averaging 96.3 points per game. Jasmine Dickey, who missed last year's contest against GW, is fifth in the NCAA (as of Friday) with 27.3 ppg and is coming off a career-high 31 points against St. John's.
Paris McBride, who scored 29 points in the win at Pitt, became the second Blue Hen, joining Dickey, to be named CAA Player of the Week this season. UD was selected to finish sixth in the CAA preseason poll.
