Wednesday's comeback marked the latest point in the game in which GW has made a double-digit comeback since coming from 15 down in the fourth quarter at UMass on Jan. 21, 2017.
PAINTING BY NUMBERS: GW tied its season high with 40 paint points in Wednesday's victory, headlined by a career-high 18 points from redshirt freshman Mayowa Taiwo and 14 points from graduate student Alexandra Maund, tying a season high. The Colonials' +20 edge was the largest this season, surpassing the 40-24 advantage in the season opener at Villanova.
Paint play has been a good predictor of success for the Colonials, who are 6-1 when outscoring their opponent in paint points.
GET USED TO IT: The Colonials are the only squad in the A-10 to have two players in the top 10 of the league in 3-point percentage, and both are in their first year of eligibility. Redshirt freshman Tori Hyduke ranks third at 42.0% with first-year Faith Blethen in fifth at 40.4%. The duo has accounted for 50 of GW's 86 made 3s this season and helped lead the Buff & Blue to a league-best 35.0% as a team.
ROUNDING INTO FORM: Graduate student Alexandra Maund and redshirt junior Sydney Zambrotta both reached double digits for the third straight game on Wednesday, a welcome sign after both missed significant time with injuries (Maund- 5 games, Zambrotta- 7).
Maund equaled her season high with 14 against the Dukes and is now averaging 11.7 ppg and 5.3 rpg over the last three. Zambrotta came off the bench for the first time this year and dropped 16 to boost her average to 12.7 ppg in the three-game stretch, while hitting seven of her last 12 from beyond the arc (58.3%).
A LOOK AT THE RAMS: Fordham saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end in a 74-62 loss at Davidson on Wednesday to fall to 1-1 in A-10 play. The defending tournament champion Rams are led by Player of the Year candidate Bre Cavanaugh, who averages 17.9 ppg and 6.3 rpg. Kendell Heremaia is a daily double-double threat with 13.1 ppg and 8.7 rpg. Those two are joined in double digits by Anna DeWolfe (13.0 ppg), an AAU teammate of Faith Blethen's since fifth grade, and Kaitlyn Downey (10.9 ppg).
That quartet accounts for 86 percent of a Rams' offense that averages 63.6 ppg, seventh-best in the league. Fordham is third in the A-10 in scoring defense by limiting foes to an average of 58.7 ppg. Prior to Wednesday's setback, the Rams had held seven straight opponents under 60 points and have done so successfully in all nine of their victories.
