Walk-off in final home game capped off strong series for first-year student-athlete
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - GW baseball second baseman Noah Levin was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week on Monday for his efforts in the Colonials sweep of St. Bonaventure over the weekend.
Levin started all three games at second base and hit .500 (7-for-14) with two doubles, three runs scored and five RBI, and he provided the walk-off hit in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. The Tarzana, Calif., native posted a 1.176 OPS in the three games, reaching base in eight of 15 plate appearances.
He opened the weekend with a four-hit day in Friday's series opener, providing a pair of two-run singles in the Colonials' 11-9 victory. His two-run knock in the last of the eighth provided the eventual game-winning runs.
On Saturday, Levin socked a pair of doubles and scored two runs in the opener before going 1-for-4 in the finale with the walk-off single in the last of the 10th inning. It was the second walk-off of the first-year's season, joining his run-scoring fielder's choice in the 10th inning of a win over UMass Lowell on March 10.
Levin has enjoyed a phenomenal rookie season, hitting .313 with 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 29 runs scored and 43 RBI in 43 games. Despite missing 10 games in the middle of the season due to injury, Levin is third on the team in average, home runs and RBI. He also ranks fourth in slugging (.476) and on-base percentage (.396).
He has upped his performance in league play, ranking ninth overall against A-10 teams in batting average (.354) and OBP (.442).
Levin and the Colonials conclude the 2019 campaign with a three-game non-conference series this week at #17 West Virginia, starting on Thursday.
