WASHINGTON -Â The Atlantic 10 announced a pair of awards for GW baseball on Monday, honoring junior Nate Fassnacht as the Player of the Week and first-year Cade Fergus as the co-Rookie of the Week following their performances against Georgetown and Manhattan.
Fassnacht had a monster week at the plate, collecting three multi-hit games over the weekend against Manhattan. The Ephrata, Pa., native was 12-for-21 (.571) with five doubles, a triple, seven runs scored and seven RBI in the four games, posting a 1.579 OPS.
After starting his week with a 1-for-3 day against Georgetown, Fassnacht racked up a pair of three-hit games in the doubleheader on Saturday against Manhattan. He provided the walk-off double in the 11th inning of the series opener, scoring Fergus all the way from first.
Fassnacht then wrapped up his week with a five-hit day on Sunday against the Jaspers, finishing a home run short of the cycle. The junior has started every game at shortstop for GW, leading the team in average (.381), hits (16), runs (13), and walks (12). He's currently tied for second in the nation with seven doubles.
In just his third career week at the collegiate level, Fergus dominated the Hoyas and Jaspers while starting each game in center field. In the four contests, Fergus was 10-for-19 (.526) with a double, triple, seven runs scored, four RBI and a 1.256 OPS.
Like Fassnacht, Fergus started the week with a 1-for-3 day against Georgetown before rattling off three straight multi-hit days over the weekend. He drove in three runs with three hits in Saturday's opener, including the game-tying RBI in the last of the 11th, setting up the walk-off win. The Plantation, Fla., native then registered two more hits in the nightcap and scored four times.
On Sunday, Fergus notched his first career four-hit day, finishing a homer shy of the cycle out of the leadoff spot. He's hit safely in six straight games to increase his average to .326, second-best on the team. He's also second on the squad with 12 runs scored and third with 14 hits.
