HY OCTANE OFFENSE: Redshirt freshman Tori Hyduke was named the Atlantic 10's Rookie of the Week and College Sports Madness' A-10 Player of the Week on Monday following an incredible week. Hyduke posted a pair of 22-point performances at Delaware and Quinnipiac, also averaging 3.0 rpg, 2.5 spg and 2.0 apg while shooting 56% from the floor and 60% from beyond the arc.
Hyduke missed last season with a torn ACL and has made up for lost time by reaching double digits seven times. She is currently the A-10's top 3-point shooter, and 13th in the nation, at 51.2%. She is also third among A-10 rookies with her 13.2 ppg.
FIRST THINGS FIRST: GW rookies Hyduke, Faith Blethen and Mayowa Taiwo have been thrust into critical roles at the beginning of their careers, combining for 21 starts through the first nine games. The trio represents three of the four players who have played in every game so far this season.
Together, Blethen, Hyduke and Taiwo combine for 26.1 ppg, 14.1 rpg, 4.8 apg and 3.2 spg while shooting 44% from the floor and 45.5% from 3-point range. Additionally, the group is responsible for 12 of GW's 24 double-digit efforts and leads the team in seven different categories.
INSIDE THE STREAK: GW's four-game winning streak has seen two double-digit comebacks and a triumvirate of wins by 10 or more points. The Colonials have been dominant in nearly every category, outscoring foes by 11.8 ppg and limiting opponents to just 50.0 ppg.
The Buff & Blue are also shooting at a tremendous 43.3% clip overall and hitting 6.8 3s per game all while holding the opposition to 33.2% overall and 20.8% from beyond the arc.
A LOOK AT THE GOLDEN GOPHERS: Minnesota rides into the Smith Center on a seven-game winning streak after defeating American, 70-53, on Sunday. The Gophers were ranked in the top 25 to begin the season and are receiving votes in both national polls this week. Taiye Bello is the team's top performer, averaging a double-double with 14.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Bello has already recorded six double-doubles this season, tied for sixth in the nation. She's also top 20 in the nation with 2.6 blocks per contest.
The Gophers also feature four other players who average double figures in Destiny Pitts (14.3), Gadiva Hubbard (12.4), Jasmine Brunson (10.3) and Jasmine Powell (10.1). As a team, Minnesota averages 79.1 ppg, ranking second in the Big Ten and 20th in the nation.
