WASHINGTON - George Washington women's basketball finishes a two-game road trip with a visit to defending MAAC champion Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Buff & Blue ran its win streak to three in a row with a 63-49 victory at Delaware on Wednesday. The Colonials held UD to four points in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win. GW's defense limited the Blue Hens to 28 points and 31.4% shooting in the final 30 minutes after yielding 21 points and 54.5% shooting in the game's opening frame.
HY OCTANE OFFENSE: Redshirt freshman Tori Hyduke's 22-point outburst Wednesday at Delaware continued what has been a remarkable start to the rookie's college career. Hyduke has now reached double digits in six games and leads the team in points, minutes per game, 3-point percentage and steals (tied). Hyduke's proficiency has been most notable beyond the arc, where she is third in the nation among first-years, and 26th overall, in 3-point accuracy, connecting at 48.6%. She is also fourth among A-10 rookies with her 12.1 ppg.
AS WE GO ON: Graduate students Alexandra Maund and Ariel Stephenson have proven to be a stabilizing and welcome addition to the youthful GW roster. Maund, who played just down the road at Yale, returned from a five-game absence on Wednesday, marking the first game this season in which both were available after dealing with various ailments.
The duo had nearly as much experience as the rest of the GW roster entering this year with 177 games and 3,939 minutes played compared to a combined 356 games played and 5,823 minutes from the seven other returners.
ROAD WARRIORS: Wednesday's victory improved GW to 3-2 away from the Smith Center this season, already just one win shy of the road win total from a year ago (4-9). After a wire-to-wire win to open the campaign at Villanova, the Colonials have utilized a pair of double-digit comebacks to earn the last two wins.
GW rallied from 11 down at Memphis to win at the buzzer on Nov. 17 prior to overcoming a 10-point first quarter deficit on Wednesday in the runaway 14-point victory.
A LOOK AT THE BOBCATS: Quinnipiac has made a name for itself as one of the top mid-majors in the country recently, having won five straight MAAC regular season championships. The Bobcats have won 52 consecutive conference games and went 26-7 a year ago, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
