Loder reaches double figures for third time in four games with 14 points
WASHINGTON - An early start for the annual Field Trip Day on Thursday afternoon at the Charles E. Smith Center provided a surge of energy flowing through the building with over 1,500 local elementary schoolers taking in the contest. Unfortunately for GW women's basketball, it was the visiting Davidson Wildcats who were able to capture the momentum and walk away with a 62-42 victory in a matchup of two of the top three teams record-wise in the A-10.
The Colonials (5-3 A-10) opened up an early four-point cushion on a pair of 3-pointers from senior Kelsi Mahoney, but were held scoreless for the final five minutes of the first quarter while Davidson (6-1 A-10) went on a 13-0 run to open up a nine-point edge.
GW climbed to within three at 19-16 on a triple from reigning A-10 Player of the Week Mei-Lyn Bautista and a lay-up from first-year Maddie Loder, but again fell victim to a dry spell as the Wildcats quickly pushed the lead to 13 on the back of a 10-0 run. The Colonials found themselves down nine at half, 29-20, following a pair of late buckets.
The Buff & Blue rallied to within six at 34-28 midway through the third quarter, but three 3s from Davidson over the next two minutes, among eight hit on the day, gave the visitors a double-digit lead that would not be dented the remainder of the afternoon.

Loder was the primary threat offensively for the Colonials, finishing a point shy of her career high with 14 points on 6-of-17 shooting. The Orono, Minn. native has now reached double figures in three of the last four games.
Bautista continued to showcase her all-around abilities, providing seven points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Davidson was led by Justine Lyon's 20 off the bench as the Wildcats shot 48.5 percent, a season-high for a GW opponent. The Colonials were held to 34.6 percent, despite connecting on 6-of-14 from beyond the arc (42.9 percent).
A road-heavy stretch of the schedule awaits GW with four of the next five games away from the Smith Center. The travels begin with a nationally-televised game on CBSSN at Saint Louis on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
