Baseball Takes Series Win at St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -- The GW baseball team took a series victory over St. Bonaventure by virtue of an 11-4 win in Saturday's finale at Fred Handler Park.
The Colonials (24-18, 10-5 A-10) have now won four of five A-10 series, with three of those coming on the road, and will return home for a seven-game homestand that includes conference matchups with George Mason (May 4-6) and VCU (May 11-13).
GW tallied 13 knocks on Saturday and was able to manufacture 11 runs. Mark Osis drove in four of them and eight different Colonials crossed the plate in a balanced offensive attack. Five had multi-hit days including Steve Barmakian, Robbie Metz and Matt Cosentino, all of whom had two hits and scored two runs.
Isaiah Pasteur was able to extend his hitting streak to 30 games with a 1-for-5, two-RBI afternoon before coming on to pitch a scoreless ninth. GW blanked the Bonnies (9-24, 5-11 A-10) over the final five innings, as Will Kobos (2-0) came on to toss 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win.
With the score tied 4-4 going into the sixth, GW took control with a four-run inning. Cosentino led off the frame with a double before single singles from Sam Martin and Pasteur plated the first run. After a sac bunt and intentional walk loaded the bases, Osis delivered a bases-clearing double to the gap in right center field to make it 8-4 Colonials. GW tacked on two more in the seventh and one in the eighth to take the comfortable win.
Next up for the Colonials is a non-conference tilt at Towson on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
